Industrial electrical design · Control documentation · Plant BIM

Electrical documentation for Perth and Pilbara project teams.

Mine and process-plant packages bring together site standards, power distribution and vendor information. Scope the SLDs, MCC and cable schedules around the current plant information and review dates.

§01 — Why Perth

WA mining runs on drafting capacity your team doesn't have.

Perth is the operational centre for the largest mining electrical projects in the world. Pilbara iron-ore, Kalgoorlie gold, Goldfields nickel and lithium, Pilbara gas processing — every one of these operations depends on tens of thousands of drawing sheets being produced, revised, and coordinated without stopping.

The constraint isn't design talent. Perth has that. The constraint is production drafting capacity. Senior WA electrical engineers end up doing panel schedules instead of system design, and consultancies bleed margin on junior-heavy drafting desks that can't scale with project peaks.

We built Advanced Mechanix to solve exactly that. Our production team works to AS/NZS 3000, AS/NZS 3008.1.1, the AS/NZS 61439 series and the AS/NZS 60079 series, inside Microstation, SkyCAD, or AutoCAD Electrical templates from WA-based clients including tier-1 operators.

  • Five shared working hours with Perth: our 09:00–18:00 PKT day runs 12:00–21:00 AWST (WA has no daylight saving)
  • Microstation-native cell libraries for WA mining standards
  • Experience with Rio Tinto, Fortescue, and BHP Pilbara drafting conventions
  • Scope and review requirements agreed before production

§02 — Capabilities for WA Mining

Documentation types we produce for Perth clients

HV Substation Documentation

132/11 kV and 66/11 kV substation SLDs, protection schemes, busbar layouts, and AS 2067-compliant documentation for new and brownfield sites.

Mine Power Distribution

Distribution switchgear, MCC packages, feeder schedules, and cable routing for hoist winders, crushers, SAG mills, ventilation, and process plant loads.

Hazardous Area (Ex) Documentation

AS/NZS 60079-compliant classification drawings, equipment schedules, and installation documentation for hazardous and intrinsically safe areas.

As-Built Reconciliation

Field red-line incorporation, brownfield documentation updates, and reconciliation of legacy drawings against current site conditions.

Protection Studies

Relay coordination, arc flash studies (IEEE 1584 calculation methods), and fault level calculations in ETAP or SKM Power Tools for WA regulator submission.

Shutdown & Outage Packs

Scope-of-work drawings, isolation schedules, and switching documentation for planned shutdowns and outage windows.

§03 — WA Standards Compliance

Start with a defined scope.

Scope your project
Before you send a drawing

Your team. Our team.
A clear way to work.

Agree the standards, review responsibilities and working arrangements before the first issue.

Quality: who checks the drawings?

The checking brief covers the project standard, drawing references and review responsibilities. We agree the internal checks, client review sequence, revision allowance and response windows as part of the package scope.

Standards: will you draw to our codes and templates?

We work to the standard that applies to your project: NEC (US), IEC 60364 and IEC 61439, AS/NZS 3000 (Australia and New Zealand), CSA C22.1 (Canada) and BS 7671 (UK). We draw inside your title blocks, layer conventions, cell and block libraries, not ours.

IP and NDA: what happens to our files?

Confidentiality and file access are agreed before source material is shared. Tell us if you require an NDA or a client-managed workspace, VDI or VPN. The scope identifies the permitted environment, access arrangements and handover requirements.

Stamps: who signs the drawings?

If your package requires a PE, Chartered Engineer or other statutory sign-off, tell us during scoping. We agree the responsible party and review requirements before production starts.

Time zones: when can we talk to the team?

Our production team is based in Pakistan (PKT, UTC+5). We agree your project’s working hours and handover arrangements during scoping. The table below uses a 09:00–18:00 PKT reference window to help plan the overlap; it is not a committed project schedule.

Scheduling reference: a 09:00–18:00 PKT window in your local time
Your time zoneReference window, your clockOverlap with your 09:00–17:00

Dubai — GST (UTC+4)08:00–17:008 h (09:00–17:00)

Los Angeles — PT (PST, UTC−8)20:00–05:00 (overnight)None — overnight handover

Daylight saving: Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra and Hobart move to AEDT (UTC+11) from October to April, cutting the overlap to 2 h (15:00–17:00); Queensland and Western Australia stay on standard time. UK summer time (BST, UTC+1) widens the London overlap to 5 h (09:00–14:00). US daylight time moves our day to 00:00–09:00 EDT and 21:00–06:00 PDT, so US teams can plan an overnight handover; the actual arrangement is agreed for your project.

§04 — Perth-Specific FAQ

Questions WA engineering managers ask us

Do you work to AS/NZS 3000?
Yes. Every Australian engagement is delivered against AS/NZS 3000:2018 (with current amendments), AS/NZS 3008.1.1 (cable selection), the AS/NZS 61439 series (switchboard and MCC assemblies), AS/NZS 60079 (hazardous areas) and AS 2067 (substations). Our QA process includes jurisdiction-specific code verification as a standard gate.
Can you work to WA mining operator drafting standards?
Yes. We regularly produce documentation for WA mining operators including standards for Rio Tinto, Fortescue, BHP Pilbara, and mid-tier operators. We maintain client-specific cell libraries, title blocks, and conventions per engagement.
Can you handle hazardous area (Ex) documentation?
Yes. AS/NZS 60079-compliant classification drawings, equipment schedules, and installation documentation for zones 0, 1, 2, 20, 21, and 22. We coordinate with your HAZOP and CHAZOP outputs.
What is your turnaround for WA-based clients?
The source information, package complexity and review requirements determine the scope. We agree the delivery programme, revision allowance and any specialist or statutory review responsibilities before production starts.
Can you work through our WA-based consultancy as a subcontractor?
Yes. Most WA engagements run this way — we act as the production drafting team inside your deliverable, under your title block, invisible to your end client. Standard subcontractor NDAs and IP clauses apply.

Your next Perth project doesn't need a new drafting hire.

Tell us the source information, drawing types and target issue date. We agree the deliverables, review allowance and price before work starts.
