Project Snapshot
Client: industrial processing facility in Western Australia, anonymized. Scope: 11 kV / 415 V single-line diagram, 2500 kVA transformer, main switchboard, MCC feeders, panel schedules, cable schedule coordination, and issue-for-construction drawing set. Result: five conflicts caught before construction, delivered two weeks early.
Client type
An industrial processing facility in Western Australia, part-way through a fast-moving plant upgrade. The client had its own internal engineering team, which owned the design and the drawing register, and was preparing to mobilise electrical contractors. The facility is not named because the work was delivered under NDA.
Scope
The job was to turn scattered source material into one construction-ready electrical package:
- The 11 kV / 415 V single-line diagram, from the utility source through the 2500 kVA transformer and main switchboard to the MCC and downstream feeders.
- The MCC schedule, panel schedules and feeder schedule.
- Coordination with the cable schedule.
- An issue-for-construction (IFC) drawing set for the client’s drawing register.
Constraints
The client’s internal engineering team had enough source material to brief construction, but not enough clean documentation to issue. The latest single-line was split across mark-ups, vendor drawings and field notes. Several motor-control feeders were known to have changed, but the changes had not made it back into the drawing register.
The construction window was fixed. The risk was not that drawings would be late in isolation; the risk was that field crews would discover conflicts after cable tray, MCC buckets and isolation points were already committed.
Standards
The governing discipline on this job was drawing control. Every change had to reconcile across the SLD, the MCC schedule, the feeder schedule and the title-block revision history before the package moved forward, and client decisions were logged separately from drafting corrections so the engineering team could see exactly what had changed and why. The finished set was delivered in the client’s drawing-register format with editable source files.
Deliverables
- Verified 11 kV / 415 V single-line diagram with utility source, transformer, main switchboard, MCC and downstream feeders
- MCC schedule with motor loads, starter references, protection notes and spare ways
- Panel schedules and feeder schedule cross-referenced against the SLD
- Redline register separating client decisions from drafting corrections
- Issue-for-construction PDFs plus editable source files for the client drawing register
Timeline
The QA review ran before IFC issue rather than after it, which is what made the schedule work. Coordination of all five conflicts was cleared before construction mobilisation, and the complete package was delivered two weeks earlier than the client needed it.
Outcome
Our review found five construction-phase conflicts before IFC issue: one transformer data mismatch, two motor-load feeder conflicts, one spare-way assumption that had already been consumed by a vendor skid, and one panel schedule that carried a superseded breaker frame size.
None of those items was dramatic on paper. In the field, each would have triggered an RFI, a procurement delay or a rework instruction. The finished package was accepted into the client’s drawing register and issued to the electrical contractor without a rework claim from the documentation scope. The facility also received a cleaner baseline for future arc flash and protection-coordination updates.
Start with a defined scope.
